Whatcom Falls March ’24

Last weekend had good weather, and at someone’s suggestion I went to Whatcom Falls again to take advantage. As I try to make a habit of, I worked my way from the lower parking lot, past the falls, and up to Northridge Park. Despite making a habit of daily exercise, this still wore me out to the point almost all my picture taking happened on the way up rather than the return trip downhill.

The picture of the day was at the upper (main) parking lot of Whatcom Falls, and it wasn’t of the falls. The crocuses were at their absolute peak. Someone was after them with a point-and-shoot, and I took up what a wide macro could make of it.

I’m toying with what a polarizer can do, and it turns out they can help see a ways underwater. It does not cancel out fast flows, however.

Most of my picture taking efforts were on birds as opportunities arose. Towhees were bolder than typical around Scudder Pond, whereas on the whole robins were more skittish than usual.

There was only one squirrel on the bold side on this outing.

To wrap it up, here are the falls on the way down. On the way up they were overcrowded.
