About

Joseph R. Stead

Amateur Photographer, Field Technician.

This site was mainly for my photography hobby. I have been encouraged by others to set up a site for it, and WordPress was recommended to me by name. I mainly shoot nature photography. Street is great when I have the chance, but it feels elusive. There is a beautiful world out there, and cameras are there to showcase it. As of late 2023, other visual arts are starting to be explored as well. Historically, my other hobbies focused on collecting and maintaining personal computers and consumer electronics.

There was a rapid resurgence of interest in photography between early 2020 and mid 2022. I did take a formal class at Green River College in 2010 with a point-and-shoot, but some elements of that course didn’t come to life for me until I moved up to more serious cameras. The camera that sped me up was a Canon Eos T7 I acquired in 2020.

I currently primarily use Canon EF and EF-S lenses, albeit adapted to a Fuji X-T4 with an adapter made by Fringer. Native X primes are great for light and general work, but for more specialized work used EF lenses give me the performance and value I need.

By trade I was a field technician, servicing ATMs and cash registers. On some occasions I did service actual printers, along with PCs and datacenter hardware. I couldn’t be open about it while I was employed, as I had access to ATM safes very often.

My work experiences further back had me thinking I could go into School District IT at some point, but at present I may be getting too pigeon-holed to get out of my current niche. I am one of the few field techs that tries to correlate reported faults on a BSOD to a specific subcomponent, but my most recent employer was more interested in honing my ability to diagnose mechanical parts by sound instead.
