Northern State ponds

I’ve got a backlog to go through, but today I went to Northern State. It’s been a while and I still haven’t explored the whole park. There seemed to be many groups shooting couples’ photos in the more developed parts of the park, so I wound up getting lost on the equestrian trails around the wetlands this time.

nitially I seriously questioned if I made the right move, but I think I did. What started with this blurry picture of a bird of prey (I think it’s a golden eagle but could be wrong, sounded more like a hawk)…

…Eventually led to swans in the pond,

a heron,

and a couple nice reflections.

This is also my first outing with a vertical grip. It’s missing the batteries needed for the full ballasting effect, but it’s already helping make the larger lenses walk about nicer than they used to. I no longer need to crutch the lens as I’m walking to keep the camera from flailing around from the neck strap. It does put some load on the neck, but a constant heavy load is better than being pulled all directions by a lack of balance.
