Quail at Cap Sante

I’m writing this on a day I’m effectively locked indoors by bad air quality. This has helped me re-learn to appreciate indoor activities (which will be good with winter coming up), but I still felt like I needed to do something productive.

Yesterday, I went to Cap Sante and Washington Park in Anacortes. Many of my good bird shots have been at Washington Park historically, but that inverted in this case. The main thing I got in Washington Park was this clip of a sparrow singing on a branch.

Contrasting that, Cap Sante is usually just a place to get wide views down to the town and oil refinery. Make no mistake, the ultra-wide paid its rent here…

…but the real star of the show was a bold quail.

I didn’t manage to get it on camera, but this quail was so uncharacteristically bold it flew onto an open car’s driver window and spooked the driver. I’m still more than happy with the really detailed shots I managed nevertheless. Perhaps this quail was emboldened by these other quail in the area. (I’m not sure if they are juvenile or female.)

I’ll close this out with an (almost) symmetrical view down 11th and 12th streets shot with a 50mm.
