Week Trip to Seaside

Last week, I was on vacation at Seaside, Oregon. Many great pictures were had, though somewhat spoiling it at slower apertures was fouling of my camera sensor. (A cleaning kit is on order, and my barely-used Ciena training should come in handy when it arrives..)

Fortunately, many great fast-aperture shots were to be had. The white-crowned sparrows around here are braver than most, and I got several good shots of them up close.

My favorite shot of the trip is one I’m somewhat reluctant to publish: I got an amazing shot of a corgi at Cannon Beach just a bit south of Haystack Rock.

While out there, I also got some good shots of rock splashes and the Tillamook Head Lighthouse. The tide was in while I was at Cannon, so I didn’t get up close to Haystack Rock (or the sometimes-present “Birds only beyond here” signs. I had the camera gear for poking fun at them, but alas.)

I also spent some time at Hug Point. What I believe to be the best of my pictures here (the beams of light filtering through the trees) is my own work, but I stole the idea from my father and I notably had to make several attempts after he got it first try.

Back at Seaside, there were quite a few sights down at the cove…

…along with a few up by the mouth of the Necanicum

One rare sight is the area near the turnaround in daylight without much of a crowd!

I have come here so often it has become a bit too easy for me to overlook what should be memorable shots out there. In fact, I have family planning on moving to the area permanently very soon; so I’ll probably spend even more time out here! I very much enjoyed my time out here, but I managed to wear myself out a bit too easily. I did walk quite a distance each day as I needed the low-pressure exercise, but I also caught a cold during my time out here and a minor back problem from lack of lumbar support. Hopefully that won’t get in the way of work too much.
